Der legendäre Country-Sänger Hank Williams (1923 - 1953) lebte ein kurzes und schwieriges Leben. Trotz seiner kurzen Karriere erzielte er viele Nummer 1-Hits in den USA. Williams hatte 1952 als der bestverkaufte Country-Musik-Künstler geendet, aber abgesehen davon hatte er in diesem Jahr nicht die besten Zeiten erlebt. Er sah sich von seiner Frau geschieden und wurde vom Grand Ole Opry gefeuert (wegen zu vieler verpasster Auftritte), seine Begleitband verließ ihn, und er kämpfte mehr denn je gegen seine andauernden Gesundheitsprobleme mit Pillen und Alkohol.
